SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

February 10, 2010

 

The Mechanicsville City Council met in regular session on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at City Hall.  Mayor Boyd A. Stine called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.  Council members present for roll call were Larry Beck, Carla Barnhart, Gene Brown, Calvin Paup, and Deanna Cook.

 

CONSENT AGENDA: Deanna Cook motioned, Larry Beck seconded to approve all items under the consent agenda including the agenda and minutes from 2/8/10. Roll call vote: Ayes:  Beck, Brown, Barnhart, Cook and Paup. Nays: None. Motion carried.

 

Budget work session:  Council worked on the budget for 2011.  The proposed budget includes using the local option sales tax funds for replacing a lawn mower ($6,800), shingles and gutters for the park pavilion ($5,600), replacing the police car ($28,000), replacing the entrance and back doors at the Memorial Building ($13,255), a walkway on the west side of the park ($4,500), replacing/repairing the lights at the park ($2,000), and additional skate park items ($5,000). The I-Jobs funding money will be allocated towards building a salt shop $15,884. The lift station is also scheduled to be shingled for $720 along with making repairs to the library roof/back wall.  A change in allocating the expense of the Alliant Energy bill for the Fire Station to be distributed 45% to Ambulance, 45% to Fire, and 10% to water.  New paid positions for fire department for the assistant chiefs Cook, Wolf, and Moravek at $200 each were included in the proposed budget.  The replacement of the 2006 ambulance was proposed at a cost of $150,000.

 

There was no cost of living increase included for wages for full or part time employees. The Employers share of the IPERS contribution increased from 6.65% to 6.95% for regular class employees and from 9.2% to 9.95% for police.  The employee’s rate of contribution will also be increasing July 1.  Coppess will complete the calculations and prepare the forms required for publishing the notice for the public hearing on March 8, 2010.
