SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

January 19, 2009

 

The Mechanicsville City Council met in special session on Monday, January 19, 2009 at City Hall.  Mayor David L. Furry called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.  Council members present for roll call were Larry Beck, Carla Barnhart, Gene Brown, Bryan Lovell and Jeff Christianson.  Others present included Jim Barber.

 

Receive visitors/public comment: None.

 

CONSENT AGENDA: Larry Beck motioned, Bryan Lovell seconded to approve all items under the consent agenda including the agenda and the minutes from 1/12/09. Roll call vote: Ayes:  Beck, Brown, Christianson, Barnhart and Lovell.  Nays: None.  Motion carried.

 

2010 Budget work session: Council reviewed budget requests from departments as well as the Senior Dining Board and identified additional items to be addressed during the upcoming year.  Some of the items included replacing the dump truck and plow, installing the sidewalk to the school (the Safe Routes to School Grant was awarded), engineering fees to study paving 125th Street in front of the school, replacing the doors in the Memorial Building and some tuck pointing, replacing the fascia board on the open pavilion at the park and adding sand under the swings and other play equipment, software, cleaning the water tower, developing a plan for replacing the water mains, fire proof filing cabinet, carpet cleaning in fire station, carpet in city hall, pre-paying principle on the water tower debt, replacing rugs and tables at the Memorial Building, and directed clerk to calculate a 3.5 % cost of living increase for wages.  Council also discussed establishing a replacement schedule for vehicles. 

  

ADJOURN:  There being no further business to come before the Council at this time, council member Jeff Christianson motioned, Larry Beck seconded, to adjourn the meeting at 8:16 p.m. Ayes all.  Meeting adjourned.
