REGULAR COUNCIL MEETING

April 28, 2014

The Mechanicsville City Council met in regular session on Monday, April 28, 2014 at City Hall.  Mayor Larry Butler called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m.  Council members present for roll call were Rob Davis, Dee Taylor, Pam Cavey, and Dee Cook .  Pam Logue arrived at 6:20 p.m.

Receive visitors/public comment: None.

CONSENT AGENDA:  Pam Cavey motioned, Dee Taylor seconded to approve the consent agenda including the agenda, and minutes from 4/14/14.  Roll call vote: Ayes: Cavey, Taylor, Davis, Logue, Cook.  Nays: None. Motion carried.

Discussion and possible action on interviewing candidates for Police Chief:  Council interviewed Tim Horihan, Jeremy Wink, and Matthew Polhamus.  After completion of the interviews, clerk was directed to offer the position to Timothy Horihan at $13.50 per hour with a review to be done after becoming certified and 90 day.  Discussion included requiring a 3 year commitment for the cost of the training to be reimbursed.

Street proposal update/clarification:  Council was provided a copy of the proposal received from LL Pelling following the last council meeting.  Originally the seal coating was estimated at $18,000 with the actual cost being $17,009 for 125th Street, however, there is an additional $5,440 for road stone base material that was not included.  Council requested cost of asphalt to be considered due to the short life expectancy of the seal coating and directed that the road rock be applied and one application of calcium for dust control.  Mayor Butler indicated that the county would haul the rock and spread it and then bill us for the cost of the rock.  Further action to be determined after the additional information is received on the costs of the asphalt.

Committee Reports: Pam Cavey reported receiving comments regarding the extension of the no parking on the south side of East South Street and a concern that the alley is not normally plowed in the winter and the area is not lit very well.

Set next regular meeting date: 5-12-14.

Mayor Comments:  None.

ADJOURN:  There being no further business to come before the Council at this time, council member Pam Cavey motioned, Dee Cook seconded, to adjourn the meeting at 8:15 p.m. Ayes all.  Meeting adjourned.
